The Human Colony Workshop is an inspiring workshop exercise designed to cultivate care, compassion and kindness in a working team.
Earth has become uninhabitable. A team of scientists has identified working teams across the human population to develop strategies for establishing new colonies on a distant planet. The goal is to create communities that care about each other. The scientists have studied human history and identified compassion and kindness as guiding principles for the new human colony, along with ways to make sustainable use of resources, create jobs, provide education, health care and culture. You have been tasked with developing a plan for Colony One.
Colony One has nearby metals and minerals to be sustainably mined. A river and coastline can provide energy through hydroelectric power and tidal generators. You must establish farms, services, a system of government and ways to encourage compassion and kindness.
